"Thanksgiving Thursday" - 2 Weeks to Go - Recipes

Two weeks until Thanksgiving & I'm all smiles.  Bill prepared his "Carrot-y Mashed Potatoes" today.  I LOVE them & we're having Thanksgiving "Dress Rehearsals".  (big smile)  You can see the few steps to make his "Carrot-y Mashed Potatoes" here.

My goal this week was to firmly decide the vegetables we want.  I used my trusted "Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book" for the additional vegetables.

I finally decided on the following:

1 - Creole Green Beans
Cook 1/4 cup chopped onion in 1 T butter till tender, but not brown.  Add 1/4 cup chili sauce, 1/8 t salt, and one 1 pound can green beans, drained.  Heat through; stir often.  Serves 4

2 - Orange-glazed Beets
Melt 3 T butter in skillet; stir in 1/4 cup orange marmalade and 1 T orange juice.  Add 2 cups cooked or canned drained beets.  Cook and stir over low heat till beets are hot and glazed, about 6-8 minutes.  Serves 4

Bill does an amazing Baked Turkey Breast so we're good there.  So, next week it's "Movies and TV" time.  After we've cooked & eaten - what are we going to watch?  See you next week for "Thanksgiving Thursday" - 1 Week to Go.

Thanks for visiting!  Reia

Mm. Carroty mashed potatoes sound amazing! Though I won't eat green beans or beats, so I'm not all that fussed about the rest. :) I'm doing Thanksgiving dress rehearsals as well, as this is our first Thanksgiving back in the US in over 11 years! Can't wait!

They really are amazing! Don't blame you about the rest - I just wanted something easy. Since Bill's the cook in the house, an eater (er - wife) can only request so much. (big smile) I'd really be happy with the potatoes and turkey but...

I always try out all my recipes before Thanksgiving also. One year I tried a new pie without making it before the big day and it was a disaster :) We ended up eating boxed pie that year, so now I always try every new recipe early!

Never thought of doing Thanksgiving "dress rehearsals"! What a great idea! I normally host Thanksgiving dinner, so as of now I'm in panic mode. I love trying new things every Thanksgiving, but it always turns out to be a risky experiment since my first time preparing it is for the "big show"! Carroty mashed potatoes sound yummy!
